PHOENIX – Neighborhood grocery chain Trader Joe’s is set to broaden its reach in metro Phoenix this week, unveiling a store in the East Valley.
The company announced the store in Queen Creek at Ellsworth Loop and Rittenhouse roads would open Friday at 8 a.m.
The 12,500 square-foot store joins a lineup at the outdoor Queen Creek Marketplace that includes Target, Kohl’s and Harkins Theatres.
It’s the 11th store in metro Phoenix and the second Trader Joe’s that has opened in the Valley since summer. The California-based chain cut the ribbon on a location in Tempe near Arizona State University in July.
“We know Trader Joe’s will be an incredible addition to our already extensive mix of Queen Creek Marketplace shops and restaurants,” Angie Kory, vice president of leasing for mall operator Vestar, said in a press release.
Customers will be asked to observe 6-foot social distancing standards indoors and outdoors. A limited number of shoppers at a time will be allowed to enter the store.
The chain also has Valley locations in Gilbert, Glendale, Mesa, Phoenix, Scottsdale and Surprise.
A West Valley city has been pitching to get its own Trader Joe’s. Goodyear officially began wooing the grocer in late 2019.
The “We Want Trader Joe’s” campaign launched with a proclamation from Mayor Georgia Lord and social media posts that included videos and plans for billboards along Interstate 10.
