PHOENIX – More than a year after closing its doors following a kitchen fire, downtown Gilbert’s Clever Koi is back in business.
The popular Asian-inspired restaurant’s grand reopening is Friday, although it resumed walk-in service Wednesday.
Dine-in seating is limited because of COVID-19 protocols, and reservations are encouraged.
The business off Gilbert Road in the town’s Heritage District, behind Barrio Queen, sustained major damage on Aug. 21, 2019, when a fire ignited in the kitchen and spread to the ventilation system. Nobody was injured.
Afterward, a note was posted on the restaurant’s windows saying repairs would take “a month or longer.” That turned out to be 14 months.
Clever Koi is offering a special Friday-Sunday of two entrees plus four cocktails for $55 as part of its grand reopening, along with free delivery of online orders.
The specials are only for the Gilbert location, which debuted in the town’s entertainment and dining hub in 2016, not the original Clever Koi on Central Avenue in Phoenix.
