Joe Biden, Kamala Harris release details about 1st Arizona visit

Oct 7, 2020, 10:01 AM | Updated: 2:36 pm

PHOENIX – Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden and running mate Kamala Harris will meet with tribal leaders, business leaders and voters during their Phoenix-area trip Thursday, the campaign announced.

The date of the visit was announced last week, but no details were made available until Wednesday morning.

The plans for the ticket’s visit to Arizona include a 2 p.m. meeting with Native American leaders in Phoenix, the campaign said in a press release.

The former vice president and U.S. senator from California will then speak at a location that hasn’t been disclosed before taking a bus tour to visit with business leaders and voters in Phoenix and Tempe.

No other information about the Democrats’ visit, which comes one day after Arizona’s early voting for the Nov. 3 election kicked off, was made available.

They will be here at same time Vice President Mike Pence makes a Republican campaign stop in Peoria.

The Pence event will take place at 2:30 p.m. at TYR Tactical near Olive and 91st avenues. The doors open at 12 p.m. and close at 2 p.m.

President Donald Trump had been scheduled to be in Arizona on Monday, but the trip was canceled following his positive test for COVID-19.

Pence and Harris will face off Wednesday night in a debate that will be broadcast live on KTAR News 92.3 FM, online or our app starting at 6 p.m.

Biden is attempting to become the first Democratic presidential candidate to win in Arizona since Bill Clinton in 1996 and just the second since Harry Truman in 1948.

Trump defeated Hillary Clinton by 3.5 percentage points in 2016, but he has been consistently behind in the polls this year while Arizona has become a battleground state.

We want to hear from you.
