PHOENIX — A Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office deputy was arrested and charged on two counts of unlawful sexual conduct on Sunday, according to a department release.

Gary Kaplan, 46, was placed on administrative leave after the arrest, pending an internal investigation, the release said.

MCSO did not say what led to the charges and arrest of Kaplan.

“MCSO will continue to hold our employees accountable for behaviors that are in conflict with our values,” Sheriff Paul Penzone said in the press release.

“As the Sheriff, I will be intolerant of violations of public trust and/or abuse of the law. We owe it to the community to be transparent and accountable. My standard will remain unwavering.”

Anyone with information is asked to call MCSO’s tip line at 602-876-TIPS or by email at tips@mcso.maricopa.gov.

We want to hear from you.
