PHOENIX — Two scheduled Donald Trump campaign stops in Arizona were canceled Friday after the president and first lady Melania Trump tested positive for coronavirus.

Trump was scheduled to speak Monday in Tucson and Tuesday in Flagstaff.

“All previously announced campaign events involving the president’s participation are in the process of being moved to virtual events or are being temporarily postponed,” Trump’s campaign said in a statement.

The president began quarantining and clearing his schedule early Friday morning after announcing his positive diagnosis.

The Arizona stops were to come on the heels of a packed few weeks of the Trump administration attempting to win over voters in the Grand Canyon State.

Trump has appeared in Arizona five times already this year, and other members of his campaign have made numerous visits.

He most recently visited Arizona three weeks ago when he hosted a Latinos for Trump roundtable event  at the Arizona Grand Resort in Phoenix.

Arizona is considered a battleground state, and the incumbent has been trailing Democrat Joe Biden in recent polling.

Biden and running mate Kamala Harris announced plans Thursday to visit Arizona next week for the first time this election cycle.

Vice President Mike Pence previously said he plans to visit Arizona the same day that Biden and Harris will be in town.

Pence, who tested negative for COVID-19, was last in Arizona Sept. 18 when he made two campaign stops.

He will continue attending scheduled campaign events.

The vice presidential debate between Harris and Pence will take place Wednesday in Salt Lake City.
