PHOENIX — A suspect was hospitalized Thursday evening after being shot by two Phoenix police officers, according to authorities.

Phoenix police responded to a shots fired call in a neighborhood near 7th Street and Baseline Road at about 9:30 p.m.

The caller said a shirtless man discharged a weapon and was playing loud music.

Officers located a man that matched the caller’s description outside a nearby residence and noticed he had a gun tucked into with waistband.

The officers began to give the man commands but he reached for the gun and was subsequently shot by both officers, police said.

The suspect, who is 29 years old and whose name hasn’t been released, was transported to a local hospital and is in serious but stable condition, police said.

No officers were injured in the shooting and an investigation was ongoing.

It was the 16th shooting involving Phoenix police this year and second in as many days, per KTAR News 92.3 FM tracking.
