PHOENIX – Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden and running mate Kamala Harris will visit Arizona next week for the first time this election cycle, the campaign announced Thursday.
Biden and Harris will make their first visit to the state Oct. 8, but further details about the trip were not immediately released.
The announcement comes the same day that President Donald Trump said he would come to Arizona to speak in Tucson on Monday and in Flagstaff on Tuesday.
Monday is the deadline for Arizonans to register to vote, and early voting begins Wednesday.
Trump has already been to Arizona five times this year and other members of his campaign have made numerous visits.
Vice President Mike Pence previously said he plans to visit Arizona the same day that Biden and Harris will be in town. Pence was last in Arizona Sept. 18 where he made two campaign stops.
The vice presidential debate between Harris and Pence will take place Wednesday in Salt Lake City.
Arizona is considered a battleground state, and the incumbent has been trailing his Democratic challenger in recent polling. In 2016, Trump beat Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton in Arizona by 3.5 percentage points.
