PHOENIX — Arizona State University reported 51 new coronavirus cases among students and faculty in an update provided Monday but overall active cases continue to decline at the university.

The university reported 211 active coronavirus infections among students and 4 active cases among faculty. In the update provided Thursday, the school had 255 active coronavirus cases among students and 2 active infections among faculty members.

Of the cases, 60 are in isolation on the Tempe campus where 9,079 students live, according to the university.

There are an additional 148 positive cases in isolation off campus in the metro Phoenix area. All remaining cases are in isolation on either the downtown Phoenix, west or polytechnic campuses.

Since the start of August, ASU has reported a total of 1,835 coronavirus cases among students and faculty.

The university has collected approximately 68,542 coronavirus tests since Aug. 1, resulting in a 2.7% positivity rate among those tested.

In a twice-weekly update, ASU releases the cumulative number of positive cases reported among students and staff as well as the “cleared positives,” instead of solely reporting active cases.

To date, 1,818 students and 151 faculty members have been cleared to resume normal activities.

The University of Arizona also continues to see a decrease in coronavirus cases.

The school reported 13 new coronavirus cases Monday, bringing the school’s total to 2,304 infections, according to UArizona’s dashboard.

The university has continued to see a decline in the seven-day average for cases, which was 50 on Monday. The seven-day average peaked on Sept. 16 at 181.

UArizona announced Monday it would lift a shelter-in-place as coronavirus cases have decreased and compliance with public health guidance has improved.

On Monday, the Arizona Department of Health Services reported 273 new coronavirus cases and one additional death, bringing the state’s documented totals to 217,510 COVID-19 infections and 5,623 fatalities.
