PHOENIX – Two children and a woman were seriously injured Sunday in Phoenix when their car was hit by a driver who fled the accident area on foot but was later arrested.
Police said in an email Alfredo Enriquez, 58, was booked on three counts of aggravated assault and one count of leaving the scene of a serious injury traffic collision near 43rd Avenue and Camelback Road.
The 41-year-old driver of the other car had a 6-year-old girl and a 5-year-old boy in the Honda SUV with her around 7:30 p.m. The children were hospitalized with critical injuries while the woman’s injuries were listed as serious, authorities said.
Enriquez was not hurt.
Police said witnesses told them Enriquez left a store that had refused to sell him alcohol and got in his truck. Clerks tried to keep him at the spot but he drove away, heading east on Camelback. His truck and the Honda collided on 41st Drive.
Store staff went to help and again tried to keep Enriquez from leaving, according to police but he ran away.
He was later found at the address listed for the vehicle and taken in for questioning.
