PHOENIX – The 2020 edition of Avondale’s Billy Moore Days will be hosted virtually due to the coronavirus pandemic this October.
The event, which celebrates Avondale’s heritage, will take place Oct. 12-17 in an online format.
“The COVID-19 situation has challenged us to find new ways to share the excitement of Billy Moore Days, especially the parade, which is a huge part of this event,” Miranda Gomez, Avondale Parks & Recreation Assistant Director, said in a press release.
Julie Giese, President of Phoenix Raceway, will serve as the grand marshal in this year’s parade. The virtual parade will be broadcast online Oct. 12. It will feature a compilation of videos from the past as well as performances from special submissions.
The public is invited to submitted videos and photos from previous events to be featured in the video.
The week’s activities continue online with the marvelous mustache contest on Tuesday and a Yeehaw contest on Wednesday. Contestants can submit their applications for both online.
Thursday will feature a pie eating contest, which has limited space to enter.
The week caps off with a Fire Hose Frenzy on Saturday, which will benefit the Southwest Lending Closet.
All events will be broadcast on the Billy Moore social media pages.
