Arizona Department of Transportation completes Loop 101 expansion
PHOENIX — The Arizona Department of Transportation completed renovations on a six-mile stretch of the Loop 101 as part of a $72 million project.
The stretch between Baseline Road and Loop 202 was expanded to four general purpose lanes and an HOV lane in both directions, according to an ADOT release.
Construction on the project began in May 2019 and also included improvements to on- and off- ramps, new retaining walls, new digital message signs, new lighting and landscaping and road smoothing.
Crews also widened the Loop 101 bridge over Chandler Boulevard.
The project was approved by voters in 2004 as part of the Regional Transportation Plan which provided funding in part from a half-cent sales tax for transportation improvements.
