PHOENIX – Phoenix will receive $6.9 million in federal grant funding to buy new buses, the White House administration announced Tuesday.
Funds from the Federal Transit Administration are designed to improve transportation infrastructure across the country.
Projects for Phoenix include replacing and updating buses, equipment and construction of bus-related facilities.
“New buses are key to the public transit service we provide and they help with the efficiency and reliability of our vehicle fleet,” Phoenix Public Transit Director Jesus Sapien told KTAR News 92.3 FM.
“You will continue seeing these new buses roll out in the next year.”
Overall, the agency granted $464 million to bus systems across the United States.
The funding covers nearly 100 projects in 49 states and territories, according to the transit agency website.
The new vehicles “will improve the safety and reliability of transit service,” the project description read.
