PHOENIX — A Phoenix man has been arrested for the alleged animal cruelty of a six-month-old puppy, the Phoenix Police Department announced Monday.
Jose Beltran, 41, was booked into jail on one count of animal cruelty and one count of failure to provide medical treatment for an animal, according to a press release.
Authorities said the canine suffered a broken rib and a punctured tongue.
Phoenix police began working with the Arizona Humane Society on Saturday in response to a video of the suspect that showed him abusing the puppy in June.
The two agencies then went to the area just north of 35th Avenue and Buckeye Road and found the dog from the video.
He had a laceration on his neck.
The puppy is expected to make a full recovery, the animal shelter said in the release.
No other information was made immediately available as the investigation is ongoing.
