PHOENIX — A brush fire is causing extreme traffic delays on Interstate 17 northbound between Black Canyon City and Bumble Bee.
Traffic is backed up for nearly 10 miles, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.
The department suggests taking alternative routes for travelers heading that direction.
A new fire, the Canyon Fire, prompted the road closures on I-17.
The fire had burned 53 acres and was 45% contained as of 5:40 p.m. Saturday.
Multiple resources, including airships, have been called to battle the flames.
The origins of this fire have not yet been released.
Yesterday, a human-cause wildfire sparked west of I-17 near the same area.
The Bumblebee Fire has burned nearly 3,000 acres and was 20% contained as of 5 p.m. Saturday.
Although an evacuation center was briefly set up at Mayer High School by the Arizona Red Cross Association, it has been closed due to lack of threat to structures and community risks.
