PHOENIX — The coronavirus crisis had stopped a Valley babysitting group from going into homes to care for children.
To adapt, the Busy Bees now has a “homework hive” to help school children with their virtual lessons.
For example, the younger students may get stuck on PowerPoint presentations.
“Our Bees will there to engage and guide them, and to answer any small questions they have, but really to help them to learn,” said co-owner Katrina Brumm.
She also says her babysitters-turned-tutors give students remote but live interaction, which they may not get from prerecorded lectures.
“Just having another safe, caring responsible person to connect with and maybe ask some questions or share something fun and exciting,” Brumm said.
The Busy Bees are mostly education majors. Some specialize in foreign languages.
Parents and students can choose any online meeting platform.
“And then the Bee just connects with them there,” Brumm said. “They have built-in brain breaks and it’s just time for the Bees to connect with the kids, too.
“It’s someone they trust and they feel like they get that one-on-one interaction.”
