PHOENIX — One person died in a house fire Sunday morning, the Glendale Fire Department said.
Jeremy Bryce Donnafield, 49, was pronounced dead at the scene, a department spokeswoman said in an email.
Crews arrived to the single-story house on North 56th Lane around 5 a.m. Sunday, but firefighters were unable to immediately enter the house because it had bars on all the doors and windows, according to the department. There had been a partial roof collapse as well after firefighters moved to a defensive posture due the extreme heat of the blaze.
Personnel also reported hearing possible sounds of ammunition upon arrival.
After getting inside, they gained control of the fire just before 5:40 a.m.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Nobody with the fire department was injured.
An update on the investigation is not expected until Monday afternoon at the earliest, according to authorities.
