Ducey announces task force for long-term care facility recommendations

PHOENIX — As long-term care facilities continue to limit visitation during the coronavirus pandemic, Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey announced a task force to create guidance for eventual allowances.
The task force will give recommendations on when and how visitations at these facilities will be able to be resumed, what steps can be taken before then and how family members can keep in contact with loved ones inside the centers.
“Many of us have family and loved ones in these facilities and are looking for guidance on when it may be safe to visit them again,” Ducey said in a statement.
“This task force will bring together public health officials, medical experts, senior advocates, private sector leaders, legislators and family members to help us chart the path forward and develop sound policy as it relates to long-term care facilities.”

The group is made of 25 people, which includes two state Senators, two state representatives, CEOs of health care organizations and other people involved in health and senior living groups.
Long-term care, nursing and assisted living facilities have had strict visitation limits since March in an attempt to prevent an outbreak of coronavirus in the home. The ages and conditions of people living there makes them particularly vulnerable to COVID-19.
In June, Ducey announced that long-term care facilities would receive $10 million for masks and PPE. He also passed a grant that would fund more video conferencing equipment for people in the homes to communicate with family.
