PHOENIX — Three years since the first reports of Arizona expansion, discount grocery store Aldi announced its plans for four Valley locations.
Aldi expects to open the four stores in the greater Phoenix area, a press release said.
The stores will be located in Chandler, Gilbert, Goodyear and Peoria, according to ABC15.
Aldi has been considered one of the best value for groceries according to surveys done by Market Force Information in nine of the last 10 years, according to the press release. It has topped Dunnhumby Retailer Preference’s price section for three years in a row.
The company, which originally opened on the East Coast, expanded to the Midwest and South. There are now about 2,000 stores in 36 states.
The only locations west of central Texas are in California, almost all of which in the south part of the state.
In 2017, the company purchased land in Goodyear to open a distribution center, according to the Arizona Republic, but that was eventually put on hold.
The grocer filed documents in September 2018 to expand into Mesa, according to Biz Journals, but those plans did not come to fruition either.
With the press release Tuesday, there has been enough progress to declare not only that Arizona will be home to four new location, but that the company expects to open 70 new stores by the end of the year.
Here are the four addresses Aldi plans to open, according to ABC15:
- Chandler: 2844 S. Alma School Road
- Gilbert: 1801 E. Pecos Road
- Goodyear: 845 N. Estrella Pkwy.
- Peoria: 24665 N. Lake Pleasant Pkwy.
