PHOENIX — Funds are still available to help solve housing instability issues caused by the COVID-19 pandemic for those with HIV/AIDS, according to Southwest Behavioral & Health Services in Phoenix.

The 501(c)3 nonprofit organization received $100,000 from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act back in May to help assist with short-term rent, mortgage and utility assistance requests.

“The COVID-19 relief funds are an important part of preventing evictions for particularly vulnerable individuals and families already struggling with HIV/AIDS,” Deborah Woodard, vice president of community resilience for the organization, said in the press release.

People with HIV/AIDS who live in Maricopa and Pinal counties are qualified to apply and must demonstrate a real emergency having exhausted all resources.

Woodard added those who qualify could receive multiple months of mortgage, rent and utility payments.

The funding was made available in early July and is on a first-come, first-served basis, according to the release, and there is a possibility that aid could be available for assistance long-term.

Those interested can call (602) 318-1715 to schedule an appointment.
