PHOENIX — The Glendale Fire Department’s fire prevention division is offering long-term care facilities a virtual option for their annual inspections, the department announced Friday.
There are currently over 300 care homes in the city of Glendale, all of which must pass inspection in order to retain their licenses, according to a press release.
In an effort to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, Glendale Fire Prevention will conduct the annual inspections remotely in a matter of just 10-15 minutes.
An in-person fire inspection would normally take roughly 30-45 minutes to complete.
In order to help facility owners be more prepared, inspectors will send a list of necessary items to the facility prior to the scheduled inspection.
The owner will then be contacted via video call and will show the inspector the documents while also walking around showing the facility in real-time.
Items that require inspection include fire alarms, fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, sprinkler systems, signage and exit plans.
According to the release, less than 20 facilities have taken part in the program as of Friday.
Glendale Fire Prevention is also offering a 30-day extension for any facility that may be closing in on its expiration date.
Long-term care facilities can request a virtual inspection by calling 623-930-3626.
