Cox offering free internet to low-income Phoenix-area families

PHOENIX — Cox Communications is offering two months of free internet to low-income families in the Valley as they prepare for the new school year amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The internet provider’s Connect2Compete service, a low-cost internet, will be available to new customers that sign up between July 21 and Sept. 30. The plan also includes technical support.
“Distance learning is the new normal, and we’re focused on removing barriers so all kids can advance in this environment,” southwest region manager and senior VP of Cox John Wolfe said in the release.
“The internet levels the playing field and there are kids that need us now more than ever.”
Customers must have at least one K-12 student at home and Participate in one of these government subsidies programs: The National School Lunch Program, SNAP, TANF, Head Start, WIC, LIHEAP or Public Housing.
Additionally, Cox is working with PCs for People to provide discounted and refurbished equipment to students and families while offering free WiFi modem rentals and access to more than 2,500 hotspots in Phoenix and Tucson/Southern Arizona combined.
Student and family will also have access to the Cox Digital Academy, which provides computer literacy training and educational resources.
