PHOENIX — The Arizona Department of Transportation announced Thursday an annual record of more than $11 million in sales of specialty license plates.

The $11.4 million in sales for the 2020 fiscal year, which ended June 30, topped the 2019 record of $11.2 million, according to a press release.

The four specialty license places designated to support programs provided by the Arizona Department of Veterans Services were again popular.

About $2.6 million in funding came from the veterans, women veterans, gold star family and military support (freedom) plates.

Specialty plates cost $25, with $17 of each sale goes to the selected program.

“The specialty plates not only honor veterans and their families, but also fund nonprofits statewide that support veteran needs, programming and events,” said retired Air Force Col. Wanda Wright, Arizona Department of Veterans’ Services director.

“This has been especially useful during these times. With these funds, we’ve been able to support Arizona’s veterans facing hardships during the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Residents can choose from a selection of specialty licenses plates on Service Arizona’s website.
