Maricopa, Pinal counties report 70 water incidents in first half of 2020

PHOENIX – Maricopa and Pinal counties reported 70 water-related incidents in the first half of 2020, including 29 deaths.
The incidents are reported to the Children’s Safety Zone by fire departments across metro Phoenix.
The data is classified by age brackets for pediatrics (0 to 5 years old), children (6 to 12 years old), teens (13 to 17 years old) and adults (18 years and older).
The Phoenix Fire Department reported the most incidents in the Valley at 31.
Of those incidents, 14 were for pediatric patients and 10 for adults. They also reported 11 deaths.
Mesa Fire and Medical Department reported the second highest number of incidents with 16.
The department reported nine pediatric incidents, one teenage incident and six adult incidents.
There were no water-related incidents reported in Apache, Cochise, Graham, Greenlee, La Paz, Navajo and Santa Cruz counties.
In 2018, the Drowning Prevention Coalition of Arizona reported a total of 161 water related incidents and 52 fatalities across the state.
