PHOENIX — The city of Chandler announced Tuesday it will host Operation Back to School over the weekend to supply K-12 students in need with academic essentials for the upcoming school year.
According to a press release, the city will hold the event in partnership with For Our City Chandler from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. at four drive-thru locations:
- Andersen Junior High School, 1255 N. Dobson Road
- Basha High School, 5990 S. Val Vista Drive
- Chandler High School, 350 N. Arizona Ave.
- Willis Junior High School, 401 S. McQueen Road
To receive a backpack filled with academic supplies, students must be present in a vehicle with their school ID or ID number.
Families have been asked to remain in their vehicles during the event due to the coronavirus pandemic.
In addition to the educational goods, families will be supplied with information about community resources related to financial assistance, COVID-19 and the 2020 census.
Chandler Mayor Kevin Hartke and 100 community volunteers from the city’s Neighborhood Resources Department will be on site assisting the event.
The city estimates Operation Back to School will benefit approximately 2,500 students and their families.
