Phoenix sets record daily high temperature at 116 degrees

PHOENIX — The temperature in Phoenix reached 116 degrees on Sunday, setting a new daily record, according to the National Weather Service.
Around 4:37 p.m., the temperature at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport officially broke the previous record of 115 degrees in 2009.
Earlier on Sunday, Phoenix also set a record for the warmest low temperature on this date, measured at 93 degrees.
The previous warmest low temperature had been 91 degrees.
On Saturday, Arizona experienced its hottest day of the year at 115 around 3:30 p.m., and also recorded a daily record for warmest low temperature at 94 degrees.
Before Saturday, the hottest day for Phoenix in 2020 was 112 degrees. The city hit 110 degrees for the first time this year May 29.
An Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect through Monday at 8 p.m. for south central and southwest Arizona.

A high of 113 degrees is forecast for Monday, according to the NWS. Tuesday and Wednesday are expected to cool off slightly with highs expected to be 110 and 109 degrees, respectively.
Under the current heat warning, the Phoenix NWS has advices residents to stay hydrated, cool off inside or in shaded areas as often as possible and limit outdoor activities to the morning or evening hours.
