Ducey has lowest coronavirus approval rate of all governors, survey says

PHOENIX — Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey has the lowest approval rating for the handling of the coronavirus pandemic of all governors, according to a survey published Tuesday.

The survey from Covid States found that Ducey’s approval rating dipped to 32% in late June.

The Republican governor’s support for his actions during the pandemic was at 57% in early May before the state’s stay-at-home order expired, according to the survey.

Since, the approval rating has continued to drop as coronavirus cases in Arizona skyrocketed.

“This combination of reopening despite public and expert opposition, and the subsequent explosion of COVID-19 cases, may explain Gov. Ducey’s low approval,” Covid States said.

More than 22,000 individuals were surveyed across all 50 states and Washington, D.C.

Republicans have been the most supportive of Ducey’s decision making during the pandemic, even as support has dwindled.

GOP approval was at 60% in late June. Prior to the mid-May reopening, Republican support of Ducey was over 80%.

Independents and Democrats were much less forgiving of Ducey.

Independent support was at 29% while only 16% of Democrats approved of Ducey’s handling of COVID-19.

Arizona had reported 116,892 COVID-19 cases and 2,082 fatalities as of Friday morning.
