PHOENIX — A 70-year-old man was killed Sunday after being shot by Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office deputies in Mesa, authorities said.
Rodney Liveringhouse was shot by deputies around 56th and Dodge streets at about 6 p.m., Calbert Gillett said.
He was transported to a local hospital and died there, Gillett said.
MCSO responded to a call from Liveringhouse’s wife, who said her husband was acting out of character, according to Gillett.
When deputies arrived, they heard a shot before Liveringhouse emerged from the home holding firearms, MCSO said.
Liveringhouse refused multiple commands to drop the weapons and pointed them at deputies before being shot, according to MCSO.
It was the 27th shooting by law enforcement in the Valley this year, according to reports tracked by KTAR News 92.3 FM.
