PHOENIX – The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office announced Wednesday it filed charges against a Phoenix police officer accused of sexual contact with women in his custody.
Sean Pena was charged for two cases that occurred within a 10-month period. The first was Aug. 26, 2018, and the other was June 1, 2019.
In the first one, Pena was charged with sexual assault. The indictment said he “knowingly did engage in sexual intercourse … without the consent of Victim A” and “knowingly did engage in sexual contact … with Victim A, who was in the officer’s custody.”
He faces an unlawful sexual conduct charge in the second case.
The indictment was filed June 19.
A termination hearing has already been scheduled for Pena, Sgt. Tommy Thompson said a press release.
Pena has been with the department for about three years.
County Attorney Allister Adel said her office’s working relationship with all police, “will not impact charging decisions when it is necessary to hold those in the public safety profession accountable for their actions.”
On the same day, prosecutors charged a Mesa police officer with aggravated assault in the shooting of an unarmed man in December.
Nathan Chisler is accused of shooting Randy Sewell at Ojos Locos sports bar. Chisler had responded to a call about drunk and disorderly customers.
He has been recommended for termination, the department said in a press release after the charges were announced.
