Gilbert university offering gap year option for concerned students

PHOENIX — A Gilbert university is looking to ease the minds of students contemplating taking a year off from school due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Missouri-based Park University announced last week it is offering undergraduate students across the country a year of unlimited online classes for a flat fee of $9,000 during the 2020-21 academic year (fall 2020 and spring 2021 semesters) as part of the school’s gap year initiative.
The university has more than 650 online courses to choose from and 70 undergraduate degree options, the school said in a press release. The online classes are offered in an 8-week, accelerated format twice per semester.

Students must currently attend or have attended a college during the 2019-20 academic year with proof of attendance (official transcripts), the school said in the release. Students can enroll in up to 18 credit hours per semester (or 9 credit hours per 8-week accelerated term).
Those who wish to take more than the 18-credit allotment can be considered for enrollment with a 3.0 GPA or higher and approval from the dean of the college the student’s degree program falls under.
Students can waive the $35 application fee by using the code GAPYEAR online.
The announcement comes following a surge in COVID-19 cases in Arizona, including three days of 3,000-plus cases. On Monday, state health officials reported 2,196 cases and three additional fatalities, bringing the death toll to 1,342.
