PHOENIX – John Pence, a senior adviser for President Donald Trump’s re-election and the vice president’s nephew, called Arizona a must-win state.
“We think we can win [Arizona] again in 2020,” Pence told KTAR News 92.3 FM’s The Mike Broomhead Show on Wednesday.
The younger Pence was in the Valley to meet with campaign volunteers, he said.
“I’m looking forward to getting back in the field,” Pence said.
Trump has scheduled his second stop in Arizona in less than two months for June 23, when he will meet with Students for Trump. The Phoenix rally will be hosted at Dream City Church on Cave Creek Road near Sweetwater Avenue.
Trump also held a rally in Phoenix in February.
Pence said helping downticket candidates was also important to the campaign.
“Sen. [Martha] McSally is a great supporter and ally for the president. Obviously, keeping the majority in the Senate is going to be one of our missions … but also taking back the House.”
A May poll of 600 Arizona likely voters from Phoenix-based OH Predictive Insights put Biden ahead of Trump, 50%-43%, while a poll from HighGround Public Affairs Consultants had a closer race, with Biden up 47%-45%.
Meanwhile, Democratic Senate candidate Mark Kelly had opened a double-digit lead on McSally, 51% to 38%, in another OH Predictive Insights survey.
HighGround Public Affair Consultants’ poll of 400 likely voters had Kelly ahead, 51%-41%.
