PHOENIX — A Glendale teen was arrested in a hit-and-run crash from May that left a toddler dead, authorities said Friday.

Collin Alexander Jones, 18, was arrested Thursday after he allegedly ran over a bike trailer carrying a 3-year-old boy and subsequently hit the child’s mother at about 1:40 p.m. on May 21, Glendale police said.

The vehicle Jones was allegedly driving, a white jeep, was found a few blocks from the scene of the incident near 70th Avenue and West Villa Theresa Drive, police said.

The young boy was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The mother was not transported for her injuries.

Police said the boy and his family were traveling in the proper direction when the vehicle began driving on the wrong side of the road toward the family.

Jones told investigators that he drifted too far to the right before correcting himself, police said.

The suspect said he didn’t hear or see anything from the crash, according to police.

Jones was charged with one count of reckless manslaughter, one count of failure to stop after a collision that results in death and one count of leaving the scene of an injury accident.

We want to hear from you.
