Following the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis, spontaneous protests have arisen in all 50 states.

Dave Tierney is one of the most respected attorneys in Arizona and is a sober and thoughtful voice.

As a former participant in early civil rights activities in Mississippi in the early 1960s, he also has historical perspective on these issues.

We pose questions to Dave, including:

  • How is our current situation different between now and that of 50 or 60 years ago?

  • Are there significant differences in political leadership? What difference has this made?
  • How has the police response differed?
  • In the 1960s, civil rights demonstrations had identifiable leadership, usually taken from the churches. These spontaneous demonstrations have no identifiable leaders; how does this change things?

In addition, we discuss three extraordinary written statements from military leaders, Gen. Mark Milley (Chairman of the Joint Chiefs), Adm. Mike Mullen (former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs), and Gen. James Mattis (former Secretary of Defense, appointed by President Donald Trump).

These unprecedented statements, including the one from our current highest-ranking military officer, demonstrate their concern about the possibility our military will be asked to intervene in peaceful protest or domestic affairs.

The Think Tank airs on KTAR 92.3 FM on Saturday 3-4 p.m. and Sunday 9-10 p.m.
