PHOENIX – A longtime grade school instructor described as someone who makes learning fun, has been named one of May’s winners of KTAR News 92.3 FM The Gaydos and Chad Show’s Pay Tribute to a Teacher.
Lou Hunt teaches second grade and special education at Saddleback Elementary School in the city of Maricopa but will be retiring soon after more than 20 years.
Her enthusiasm and commitment to her students earned the award’s $2,500 prize.
“Miss Lou is always going above and beyond for the kids who struggle or need more attention and direction. She has an amazing ability to get kids excited about learning and give them confidence and knowledge to be successful,” the nominating letter written by her son Russell Hunt, read.
Lou Hunt said she’d be spending more time with her nine children and 38 grandchildren.
She’s been online helping the youngest learn to read.
“I struggled in reading growing up and I don’t want any of grandchildren to struggle the way I did,” Hunt said.
Besides enjoying her family, which includes her husband, a Maricopa Unified Schools bus driver, Hunt will turn her talents to gardening.
