Scottsdale Fashion Square closed after night of protests, criminal activity

PHOENIX — Following the third consecutive night of protests in the Valley, Scottsdale’s Fashion Square is closed today, according to authorities.
Around 9:20 a.m., the Scottsdale Police Department announced that Camelback Road was also closed from Goldwater Boulevard to Scottsdale Road due to last night’s criminal activity.
As a result of last night’s criminal activity, Scottsdale’s Fashion Square Mall, as well as Camelback Rd from Goldwater Bl to Scottsdale Rd is CLOSED today. This area is to be avoided. Updates on last night’s activity will be provided later today. pic.twitter.com/GDclrlM0oC

Multiple stores at Fashion Square Mall were damaged by looters Saturday night around 10 p.m. including Neiman Marcus, Urban Outfitters and the Apple Store.
About an hour later, Scottsdale police declared the area’s gathering to be an unlawful assembly, thereby subjecting anyone still in attendance to arrest.

Unlawful assembly was also declared Saturday night by Phoenix police around 10:30 p.m. following reports of loud bang sounds.

The protests come in response to Monday’s deaths of Minnesotan George Floyd and Arizonan Dion Johnson at the hands of law enforcement.
