Arizona reports 681 new coronavirus cases, 3 additional deaths

May 31, 2020, 9:08 AM

PHOENIX — The Arizona health department reported 681 new coronavirus cases Sunday morning with 3 more deaths.

The number of cases statewide has now reached 19,936 with 906 deaths.

Health officials reported 790 cases on Saturday, its highest number of cases for a daily state report. However, it doesn’t represent the actual activity over the past 24 hours.

Data presented comes after the state receives statistics and compiles them. This process can take several days.

There have been 318,573 combined tests for active COVID-19 infections (PCR testing) and antibodies (serology testing) in the state as of Sunday.

The number of tests that have returned positive is 5.6%.

Of the 225,206 tests for the virus, 6.7% have come back positive.

In the more than 93,000 tests for antibodies, 3% have returned positive.

The Arizona Department of Health Services has been providing case and testing updates on its website each morning. The dashboard includes, among other information, testing trends, updated hospital capacity and a ZIP code map of cases.

Coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms for most people, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks. For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe outcomes, including pneumonia and death.

Nationally, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported 102,785 deaths from more than 1.7 million COVID-19 cases as of Saturday’s daily U.S. update.

According to data compiled and regularly updated by Johns Hopkins University, there were more than six million cases and 369,847 deaths globally as of Sunday morning.

We want to hear from you.
