Phoenix police involved in shooting with fleeing suspect

PHOENIX – An officer-involved shooting Friday night left one man with non-life-threatening injuries.
According to Phoenix Police, officers responded to a call around 10 p.m. that there was a man with a gun making threats near 27th Avenue and Bethany Home Road.
Two officers arrived on the scene and when they attempted to make contact, 22-year-old Omar Luna fled toward his residence.
When Luna approached the entry way, he pulled out a handgun and fired a round.
One of the officers discharged his weapon striking the suspect.
After Luna was shot, he went inside. Police called the occupants and Luna out of the home.
They took Luna into custody and rendered first aid.
He was transferred to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and later booked into the Maricopa County Jail on aggravated assault and disorderly conduct charges.
This was the 7th Phoenix officer-involved shooting of 2020.
No officers or civilians were injured in the incident.
It was the 21st shooting involving an officer in 2020, according to data tracked by KTAR News 92.3 FM.
