PHOENIX — A wrong-way collision on Interstate 17 near McDowell Road forced all nearby traffic to exit at Thomas Road on Wednesday night, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

Around 7:41 p.m., law enforcement first responded to calls of a serious crash near Thomas Road, the Arizona Department of Public Safety told KTAR News 92.3 FM in an email.

The road was closed until around 12:45 a.m.

A 45-year-old male was reported to be driving a Suzuki hatchback northbound in the southbound lanes, when he collided with a Ford truck with two occupants, according to authorities.
