PHOENIX — The Glen Canyon National Recreation Area on Thursday will increase access to parts of Lake Powell in northern Arizona as part of a phased reopening plan.

The Lone Rock Beach Primitive Campground will be reopened for day use and overnight camping. Entrance and camping fees will be collected.

Additionally, fee stations and automated fee stations throughout the recreation area will be reactivated.

The stations were modified with plastic shields and will only accept charge cards only for the time being, according to a press release from the National Park Service.

Also, boats will be able to launch at the Bullfrog, Wahweap, Halls Crossing and Stateline ramps without restriction.

Several other areas in Glen Canyon National Recreation area will reopen as part of the phased plan.

“While these areas are accessible for visitors to enjoy, a return to full operations will continue to be phased and services may be limited,” NPS said in the release.

“When recreating, the public should follow local area health orders, practice Leave No Trace principles, avoid crowding and avoid high-risk outdoor activities.”

Some amenities will remain closed as the coronavirus outbreak continues.

That includes all boat ramps and most visitor services at Antelope Point Marina, the North Wash day use area and the Lees Ferry campground.
