PHOENIX — A Food City location in Phoenix that had been closed due to a fire last September reopened its doors Wednesday morning.

The Food City located near 35th Avenue and Van Buren Street held a soft opening after being closed roughly eight months following a fire that left the store with fire and smoke damage, the grocer said in a press release.

On top of repairs, Food City remodeled the store, which now features an expanded restaurant, an updated tortilleria and pharmacy, and upgrades to the outside grilling area.

In addition to the reopening of the remodeled location, Food City’s offering a transportation shuttle for shoppers who spend $25 or more in the store.

Food City also underwent a baby department upgrade and expansion at the Phoenix location, giving it more than 600 additional products that include formula, diapers, early stages of food, and health and wellness items.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony and grand reopening is scheduled for June 3, according to Food City. The first 300 customers who check out with their purchases will receive a free reusable shopping bag filled with groceries and other items.
