PHOENIX — In an effort to beat the heat, the Salvation Army is opening its heat relief stations this week.

With an excessive heat warning issued for Wednesday until Saturday, the Salvation Army is activating 12 heat relief stations in eight cities in the Valley, the organization said in a press release Tuesday.

The stations will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

In addition to the relief stations, a mobile hydration unit will also be used to target portions of the Valley that have been identified as homeless encampments and areas with high homeless populations, the Salvation Army said.

Here’s a look at the 12 heat relief locations across the Valley:

• Apache Junction Corps Community Center
• Estrella Mountain Corps Community Center
• Chandler Corps Community Center
• Glendale Corps Community Center
• Valley of the Sun Korean Corps Community Center
• Mesa Corps Community Center
• Phoenix Citadel Corps Community Center
• Phoenix Maryvale Corps Community Center
• Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center South Mountain
• The Salvation Army Phoenix Family Services Office
• Sun Cities West Valley Corps Community Center
• Tempe Corps Community Center

Phoenix-area temperatures are expected to reach between 107 to 111 degrees through Saturday, according to public safety officials.

Warning signs of heat-related illnesses can include heavy sweating, muscle cramps, weakness, headache and nausea.

Too much time in the Arizona sun can lead to heat exhaustion, heat stroke and even death.

We want to hear from you.
