PHOENIX — Arizona nursing homes are about to receive the first phase of personal protective equipment delivery from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

A total of 25 facilities across the state are set to receive an initial 7-day supply of PPE for their staffs, according to an email from the Executive Office of the President.

The first series of shipments was projected to be sent out between May 19 and May 23 while the second 7-day supply of PPE are scheduled for departure sometime in early June.

The sending of PPE to Arizona nursing homes comes as a result of a directive by the White House Coronavirus Task Force to FEMA last month.

The first wave of PPE supplies were directed to facilities located within prioritized hotspots, according to FEMA.

More than 15,000 nursing homes across the country are set to receive the federal government’s delivery of PPE, which are said to total 608,000 pieces of eye protection, 6.9 million masks, 6.4 million gowns. and 31.4 million pairs of gloves.
