PHOENIX — The Phoenix Zoo has announced it will reopen in mid-June, almost three months after closing due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The zoo will open to members on June 13-14 before doing so to the general public on June 15, according to a press release.

It has been closed since March 18 with the exception of the Cruise the Zoo event, which had more dates added between June 4-8, July 2-6 and August 6-10.

Cruise the Zoo lets visitors tour the facility and see select animals from the comfort of vehicles.

The zoo will be closed to foot traffic on the Cruise the Zoo dates, according to the release.

The Phoenix Zoo’s reopening will come with limited hours and modifications because of COVID-19.

The zoo will be open from 7 a.m. until noon and be limited to a capacity of 2,500 people per day with required physical distancing.

Tickets for any day must be purchased in advance in order to ensure entry, regardless of member status.

Additionally, all zoo staff will be required to wear masks. That isn’t a requirement for zoo attendees.

The zoo also installed acrylic guards and enhanced its sanitation procedures for high-contact areas.

Some exhibits and recreation spots will remain closed even after the zoo’s reopening, including camel rides, the giraffe encounter and the monkey village walk-thru.

We want to hear from you.
