PHOENIX — St. Mary’s Food Bank will be holding a food drive in an effort to address the decrease in donated items due to coronavirus-related cancelations and postponements.

In partnership with real estate investment company Macerich, St. Mary’s will be holding a one-time ‘Shopping Mall Food Hall’ on Saturday at various locations throughout the Valley, according to a press release issued Monday.

St. Mary’s volunteers will be at the following locations from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. to collect non-perishable food items:

  • St. Mary’s Food Bank (2831 N. 31st Ave. in central Phoenix)
  • St. Mary’s Food Bank (13050 W. Elm St. in Surprise)
  • Arrowhead Towne Center (south entrance)
  • Paradise Valley Mall (behind Wendy’s and between Dillard’s and Macy’s)
  • Desert Sky Mall (outside of the food court near Dillard’s)
  • Scottsdale Fashion Square (next to Crate & Barrel)

The most needed items include peanut butter, canned fruits and vegetables and bottled water, though all non-perishable donations are encouraged.

“Even under normal circumstances, summer is the most difficult time for food bank because we distribute more food than any other time of the year,” St. Mary’s President and CEO Tom Kertis said in the release.

“This year, we have been asked to put out so much more food while seeing a large drop off in our normal food donations … This is a great time to get the food to families who are really struggling right now.”

Those donating are asked to place the items in their car trunks, SUV hatch backs and truck beds whenever possible.

St. Mary’s volunteers will be wearing personal protective equipment while retrieving donations.

We want to hear from you.
