Three-year-old boy killed in hit-and-run during bike ride in Glendale

PHOENIX — A 3-year-old boy died Thursday afternoon after he was fatally struck in a hit-and-run accident while out on a family bike ride in Glendale.
A family of four was on a bike ride around 1 p.m. near 70th Avenue and Union Hills Drive heading north on the eastside of the avenue when a vehicle traveling south on 70th Avenue struck the child, according to the Glendale Police Department.
The child was being pulled in a bike trailer by his father when he was hit. The mother was also struck.
The vehicle never stopped and proceeded to drive away east on Villa Theresa Drive, according to police.
A nurse nearby heard the accident, came outside and started CPR on the boy. Officers also performed CPR on the child when they arrived on scene.
The boy was airlifted to a local Valley hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The status of the mother is unknown at this time.
The suspected vehicle in the incident was located at a home a few blocks away from the scene, police said.
Two suspects were identified and interviewed.
There is no other immediate information at this time as the investigation is still ongoing, police said.
