Phoenix Municipal Court requiring face coverings beginning June 1

PHOENIX — In an effort to transition back to full operations from the coronavirus pandemic, Phoenix Municipal Court is requiring the wearing of facemarks, face coverings or face shields beginning June 1.

The Arizona Supreme Court has mandated that only members of the general public wearing face mask or face covering will be allowed into the court building.

Those not wearing a face covering of any kind will not be allowed to enter, the court said in a press release.

Additionally, all Phoenix Municipal Court staff, which includes judicial officers, shall wear some kind of face covering during in-person contact with court personnel or the public.

The requirement stems from Gov. Doug Ducey’s order directing all Arizona courts to implement plans to prevent all, or a substantial portion of court personnel from becoming infected with coronavirus and/or requiring quarantine resulting from work-related content.

The Arizona health department reported 293 new coronavirus cases Friday morning and 12 more deaths, increasing the totals to 15,608 and 775.
