PHOENIX — Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University announced on Thursday face-to-face instruction would resume on June 30 at its campus in Prescott, Arizona.

The plan to have students return to class next month comes after the university resumed flight and housing operations on May 16.

“We believe that a structured, cautious return to normal operations will provide a platform for our institution’s long-term success and better prepare us for the fall semester,” Mori Hosseini, chairman of the university’s board of trustees, said in a press release.

Embry-Riddle is putting multiple precautions in place to operate safely during the coronavirus outbreak, such as limiting classroom and residence hall occupancy and optimizing schedules to minimize contact.

Masks will be required in all common areas, both inside and outside, according to the release.

Students who have recently been sick or in contact with someone who was sick, on a cruise, or coming from any designated coronavirus hotspot will also not be permitted on campus without appropriate quarantine, screening or testing.

Other precautions include daily wellness checks, plexiglass barriers and the availability of sanitizers around campus.

Positive coronavirus cases in the state surpassed 15,000 on Thursday, with 763 deaths.

Yavapai County, where the university is located, has 273 positive cases of the virus as of Thursday, with six deaths.

Face-to-face instruction is also resuming at the Embry-Riddle campus in Flordia.
