Woman crossing street in Phoenix hit by car, killed

PHOENIX – A woman crossing a street in Phoenix early Wednesday was hit by a car and has died, authorities said.
Police Sgt. Ann Justus said in an email that the 5 a.m. accident shut down Thomas Road from 22nd to 24th streets in both directions.
The unidentified woman was walking along Thomas Road in the middle of the block when she was struck by a westbound vehicle.
The driver remained at the scene to answer police questions.
No other details were immediately available.
The investigation is ongoing.
