Crews successfully control brush fire in northeast Scottsdale

PHOENIX — Crews successfully controlled a brush fire that ignited Tuesday morning in northeast Scottsdale and threatened several buildings.

The Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management said the blaze’s progress was stopped after it consumed an estimated 30 acres.

Personnel from the Rural Metro, Phoenix and Scottsdale fire departments responded to the scene near 144th Street and Rio Verde Drive.

“The fire did jump across north of the Rio Verde Drive. Our crews were there to protect those homes there,” Ryan Wick of Rural Metro told KTAR News 92.3 FM.

“No homes were involved whatsoever. No livestock. No injuries.”

Investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the fire, Wick said.

Footage from television news helicopters showed flames spreading across brush between developed properties and thick smoke billowing into the surrounding area.

The blaze broke out about 15 miles southeast of the East Desert Fire that ignited in Cave Creek on Sunday and isn’t yet fully contained.

Some resources from the 1,500-acre East Desert Fire were diverted to help fight the Scottsdale blaze, authorities said.
