PHOENIX – Two months after closing because of the coronavirus outbreak, public libraries in Phoenix will begin to reopen Monday with curbside service.

More businesses and services are expected to reopen more fully when Arizona’s stay-at home order expires at 11:59 p.m. Friday.

More than a dozen locations will be available for picking up items daily except Sunday from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Dropoff service is available every day at any time, except at South Mountain Community branch. Borrowers can return their items at any location.

Cardholders in good standing can reserve items online or by calling 602-262-4636.

There is a limit of 15 items per account.

Patrons must wait until they are notified their order has been fulfilled before going to pick them up.

Once there, they are to stay in the car then call in, then give their card number.

A library staffer will check out the items, then bring them outside and place them in the back seat or trunk.

Anyone can collect the items but he or she will need the cardholder’s account number.

The area’s other public library system, the Maricopa County Library District, began offering curbside pickup in late April at 16 of its 18 sites.

The Phoenix libraries shut down March 15 as the coronavirus began to spread around the country.

We want to hear from you.
