PHOENIX — Arizona students attending state universities will see no tuition increases for the 2020-21 academic year, the Arizona Board of Regents announced Thursday.
The board and university presidents approved the plan in an effort to keep higher education accessible for students facing financial difficulties due to the coronavirus outbreak, according to a press release.
“Our presidents are working diligently to ensure our universities are as efficient as possible in these unprecedented times,” said ABOR Chair Larry E. Penley in the release.
“Expenses have risen due to the pandemic. Those expenses come directly from
assuring health and safety on our campuses and from the modified learning environment during the late spring semester.
“Despite the many uncertainties for our universities, this is not the time to raise resident tuition.”
Non-resident students could experience a 5% tuition increase at Arizona State University.
New undergraduate non-resident students attending Northern Arizona University may face a tuition increase between .5% and 3%, and new resident College of Medicine students at University of Arizona will see their tuition increase by 3%.
